Frequently Asked Questions
Is Seashore Gardens Living Center a nursing home?
No, Seashore Gardens Living Center is more than a nursing home; it is
a licensed Home for the Aged. We specialize in providing care to the
elderly with assisted living, physical, speech and occupational therapies,
nursing care and Alzheimer’s care all under one roof. Our Comfort
Care Alzheimer’s Residence is certified by the State of New Jersey
as an Alzheimer’s Special Care Unit.
What is the difference between
assisted living
and nursing care?
Assisted living provides an atmosphere for seniors who wish to live independently
with the understanding that assistance and personal care services are
available when needed. Examples of these services include medication
monitoring, and assistance with bathing.
Nursing care is for seniors who are in need of round the clock skilled
nursing care. A registered nurse
is on
site
24 hours
per day
along with other licensed and certified nursing, recreation, dietary
and social services staff members.
How much time does the nursing staff
spend with each resident?
The State of New Jersey requires a minimum of 2.5 nursing care hours
be provided to each resident per day. The federal government does not
currently set a minimum standard in number of hours. Seashore Gardens
Living Center’s nursing staff works to exceed the minimum nursing
care hours required. Our goal is to meet the needs of our residents identified
by our professional staff.
Do you offer rehabilitation services?
Physical, occupational, and speech therapies are provided on site at
the Living Center, six days a week. The comprehensive rehabilitation
program is designed to help seniors return to routine activities after a
medical procedure, surgery, or hospital stay. While at Seashore
Gardens Living Center for rehabilitation, seniors receive healthcare
services, such as 24-hour nursing care, assistance with bathing, and
medication administration. For more information,

What is respite care?
Sometimes loved ones need rehabilitation services after a medical procedure
or may need nursing care after surgery. Respite meaning "relief" care
is available at Seashore Gardens Living Center. With physical, speech and occupational
therapies available on site, the Living Center provides a comfortable and nurturing
atmosphere for those in need.
Family members who may need to go on a vacation, business trip or take time for
themselves can have the comfort of knowing that their loved one is being cared
for while they are away. Caregivers can rest assure that their loved one is receiving
their medication and meals, joining in activities and making new friends.

What
does it mean to be Kosher?
Kosher comes from the Hebrew word Kasher meaning "good" or "proper." There
are various Jewish dietary laws which must be followed in a kosher environment.
Specifically, meat and dairy products will not be served or eaten in the same
meal. In fact, separate dishes are used to serve meat meals and dairy meals.
Animals that chew the cud and have split hooves are considered to be kosher
animals. Fish with fins and scales are kosher. Pork products are not kosher.
Foods that
are neither meat nor dairy products nor derivatives of either are called pareve,
pronounced (parv). This is a Yiddish word meaning "neutral." They
may be used when preparing or serving meat or dairy meals. Pareve products
include
all fish, and all foods that grow in the earth (raw fruits and vegetables).
Visitors and residents may bring in any fresh fruit or vegetables to stay within
the Kosher
dietary laws.
How do I know if something is kosher?
Food packages carrying a K or U or say "kosher" either on the front
or back of the label package denote kosher.
What is the cost of living at Seashore
Gardens Living Center?
There are various rates based on the needs of the resident. In the Louis Edelstein
Assisted Living Residence, there are both studio and one-bedroom accommodations.
Additional fees for services are based upon individual needs. In the Health
Care Center, there are private and semiprivate accommodations. The Health Care
Center
participates in the Medicare, Medicaid and Long Term Care Insurance Programs.
