Re:     Medicaid Nursing Home State Budget Cuts

Dear____________:

Governor Corzine has recommended a reduction of $45 million in state funding for Medicaid certified nursing homes in his FY 2009 State Budget by not re-basing or providing an inflationary adjustment to the reimbursement rates.  I am writing on behalf of Seashore Gardens Living Center located in Galloway Township, New Jersey, which is within your district.  Such a drastic reduction in funding would seriously jeopardize the well-being of this community and undermine the Living Center’s continued efforts to provide care to the elderly.

Every “state” Medicaid dollar cut results in a loss of an additional dollar in “federal” Medicaid matching funds bringing the total reduction under the proposal to $90 million for nursing facilities statewide in FY 2009.  In light of the significant economic crisis the state is currently facing, there is no reason to forfeit these federal matching funds and roll back reimbursement for frail Medicaid recipients.

Your assistance in restoring the additional $90 million proposed to be cut in FY 2009 is critical to ensure that the state’s oldest, frailest and poorest residents are not deprived access to these 24/7 services that cannot be provided and paid for in any setting other than a nursing home.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need additional information and thank you for giving this important issue your immediate attention.

Sincerely,
